MAGPIE TALES

 ROUND THE BEND

 Oh, do let us go round the bend, you and me,
That bend in the river, there,
There probably isn’t all that much to see,
-More river, more bend and another damned tree-
Such fun round the bend, on our own, it would be;
That bend in the river, there.

How finely this flows, and how prettily it sneaks from sounding like the beginning of a British Children's Poem ca 1800-something, into vexation, to possible romance, and then contemplation.

Ahh, yes. There's always the lure of the unexpected round the next bend.
